Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Michigan State Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The IPFW women's tennis team completed the 2012 Michigan State Fall Invitational on Sunday afternoon. There was no team scoring at the tournament.
Kristine Lindal was the champion of Flight F singles at the Michigan State Invitational. Lindal defeated Erin Filbrandt of Dayton 6-4, 6-1 on Friday. She came back to drop Victoria Marchant of Dayton 7-5, 6-1 on Saturday and then won the championship over Mengdi Lui of Cleveland State 6-2, 7-5 to earn the championship.
Marcy Huck represented IPFW in the Flight E singles bracket. Huck beat Katie Boeckman 6-1, 6-2 on Friday and advanced to record another win over Emily Mazzola of Toledo 7-6, (3), 6-3. She was knocked out of the tournament by the eventual champion, Soler Hernandez of Marquette 2-6, 7-5, (10-3).
Caterina Kiefer reached the finals of the Flight B bracket for IPFW. Kiefer faced Lauren Chypyha of Wisconsin in the championship and was defeated 6-2, 6-0. She recorded wins over Pia Rygh of Toledo 7-5, 6-1, Erin Gebes of Marquette 6-3, 6-4, and Alex Power of Cleveland State 7-6, 4-6 (10-5) to reach the final round.
After losing to Aina Hernandez of Marquette in Flight C singles 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, Theresa Neumeyr came back to defeat Mackenzie Bowman of Toledo 6-2, 6-2 in the opening round of the consolation bracket. She was eliminated in the next match by Kristel Sanders of Ball State 5-7, 6-1, 14-12.
The team Flight A doubles team of Anita Henestrosa and Caterina Kiefer finished the tournament strong after falling to Michigan State in the opening round of the bracket. They defeated Carly Peck and Maureen Stevens of Dayton 8-0 in the first round of the consolation bracket and grabbed another win over Christine Guerrazzi and Christina Raymond of Miami (OH) in the next round (8-2). Henestrosa and Keifer were set up to face Courtney Wild and Bethany Moore of Ball State in the finals of the consolation bracket, but the two teams ran out of time as the match was not played.
