
Baseball Returns to Action Against Southeast Missouri State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- IPFW will continue their stretch of road games to begin the 2012 campaign. The Mastodons will face Southeast Missouri State this weekend in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Southeast Missouri is off to a 1-3 start early in the 2012 season. They opened the year on the road with a doubleheader against Dallas Baptist University. The Redhawks were in each game, but could not pull out a win taking two one-run losses (6-7, 2-3). The final game of the series against Dallas Baptist ended in another loss (1-3).
The Redhawks hosted Harris-Stowe State University this Tuesday and recorded their first win of the season 8-6. Senior Trenton Moses hit a three-run homer to right center in the bottom of the eighth to give Southeast Missouri the win. Trevor Kill earned his first win of the year on the mound, and Dylan Lynn came in to finish off Harris-Stowe picking up the save.
Cole Bieser is off to a hot start to the 2012 season. Bieser has started in all four games for Southeast Missouri and hold a batting average of .400 (6-for-15). Moses and Ryan Barnes provide power at the plate for the Redhawks. Each player has a homerun and four RBI's early in the year.
Southeast Missouri was 19-7 at home during the 2011 season. They finished the year with an overall record of 34-22. The Redhawks lost five position starters and 10 pitchers.

The Mastodons are off to a 1-2 start to the 2012 regular season. They dropped their season opener to Alabama A&M 8-5, but bounced back to take an 11-2 win over the Bulldogs the very next day. The third game of the series was a 3-2 loss. The Mastodons returned to campus early as heavy rain cancelled the fourth scheduled game.
Carter DeBoe provided the 'Dons with a spark offensively against Alabama A&M. DeBoe recorded a double and a three-run homerun to end the series with 6 RBI's. Shane Trevino also had a nice start to the season. He ended the series with two doubles.
Jason Kalber picked up the win for IPFW on the mound. He threw six innings and struck out seven batters. He now owns an ERA of 3.00. Steve Danielak earned a three inning save against the Bulldogs. Danielak struck out four in his first action of the season.
UP NEXT
IPFW will travel to Evansville, Ind. to face the Purple Aces in early March. Friday, March 2 will feature a doubleheader with the 'Dons facing Evansville at 11 a.m. followed by a matchup with Eastern Illinois at 3 p.m.
