Baseball Visits Wren Stadium to Face Ohio

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The IPFW baseball team will travel to Athens, Ohio to face the Ohio Bobcats this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play a four-game series starting on Friday, March 16 at 4 p.m.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Ohio is 6-8 overall this season with three of their wins coming at home. The club most recently took two of three against Oakland at Wren Stadium. The beginning of the season got off to a rocky start for the Bobcats as the team started the year 1-5 after road games against UNC-Wilmington and Middle Tennessee State.
Ohio played in the Davidson Tournament which featured the host Wildcats and the Presbyterian Blue Hose. They went 2-2 in North Carolina and were forced two play two extra inning games during their trip. They defeated Davidson 7-6 in 10 innings on Saturday and then came back to play in a 14 inning game on Sunday which they lost 11-10.
Senior outfielder Jensen Painter was recently named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week for the Bobcats. Painter earned the honor by hitting .538 last week in games against West Virginia State and Oakland. He was 7-for-13 from the plate with two home runs, six RBI and seven runs scored. He leads the team in home runs (4), RBI (14), hits (19), total bases (37), walks (11), slugging percentage (.698) and on-base percentage (.462).
Kyle Dean and Jake Madsen have also played well offensively early in the year. Dean is hitting .400 (10-for-25) with one home run and seven RBI. Madsen comes into the weekend with a .365 batting average. The ace on the mound this weekend for Ohio will be Brent Choban. Choban holds an ERA of 1.69. He is 2-1 overall only allowing five earned runs in just less than 27 innings of ball. Jason Moulton will also be in action this weekend. Moulton is 0-1 on the year, yet his ERA is second-best on the team (2.89). He serves as the team's strikeout leader (17) and he has only walked four batters.
QUICK HITTERS
- Carter DeBoe was recognized as the Summit League Baseball Player of the Week for his performance against Butler.
- DeBoe leads the team in doubles (5), home runs (2) and RBI (10).
- Malcolm White leads the team with a .325 batting average. His on-base percentage of .473 is also tops on the team.
- Only four Mastodons have started in all 13 games – Malcolm White, Kristian Gayday, Clay Hathaway, and Carter DeBoe.
- Jason Kalber has been on the mound for each IPFW win this season (3-1). He leads the team in strikeouts with 28.
- Clay Hathaway has been aggressive on the base paths stealing four bags on five attempts.
- Travis Reboulet leads the team with a 3.20 ERA.
