Kramer's Gem Leads 'Dons to Series Win

MACOMB, Ill. - IPFW freshman pitcher Miranda Kramer threw a complete-game two-hitter against the Western Illinois Leathernecks, giving the hosts their first Summit League series loss of the season with a 4-0 series-clinching win.
Kramer struck out six, walked two and gave up two hits, with no Leatherneck baserunner advancing past second base, as the freshman improves to 10-3 on the season with her third career shutout.
The win improves IPFW to 35-11 on the season and 12-6 in the Summit League this year, while Western Illinois falls to 23-22 overall, and 13-5 in league play.
Larissa Franklin was 2-for-4 for IPFW with a stolen base, her school-record 19th of the season, while Alex Bousquet drove in a pair, as each of IPFW's four runs came from four different batters.
After trading a pair of scoreless innings, the Mastodons broke through for the first time in the top of the third inning when Alex Bousquet tripled, scoring Brittany Kachur and Franklin, and giving the visitors the 2-0 lead. With the base hit, Bousquet reached base for the 22nd consecutive game this season.
In the fourth inning, IPFW catcher Audrey Mintari successfully converted a sacrifice squeeze, as Jess Haskins scored on the plate, giving the 'Dons the three-run advantage.
A Kachur ground ball that could not be corralled by WIU shortstop KC Dunne scored Stephanie Beuther, and giving the Mastodons their final run of the game, pushing the lead to 4-0.
Leatherneck starting pitcher Hailey Bickford picked up the loss, striking out three and giving up a run.
With the win, the 'Dons are pushed back into a tie for third place in the Summit League standings, tied with Southern Utah, whom the Mastodons hold a tiebreaker over. The Leathernecks are a game ahead of IPFW, while North Dakota State is alone in first place in the league standings.
The Mastodons return to action on Wednesday, April 25 when the squad travels north to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, to take on the Chippewas of Central Michigan with a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
