Sixth MAC Opponent this Season Awaits IPFW on Wednesday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW softball team meets up with its sixth Mid-American Conference opponent this season, as the Mastodons are 9-1 this season against teams from the conference, and puts its 35-11 overall record on the line as the squad travels north to Central Michigan University in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.

SCOUTING THE CHIPPEWAS
Central Michigan comes into the mid-week meeting having lost four of its last five games, including back-to-back losses at Ball State on Saturday and Sunday.
The team has been led offensively by to primary catalysts, center fielder Macy Merchant and first baseman Molly Coldren. Merchant, who bats leadoff for the Chippewas, has a .384 batting average with 22 runs scored, five RBI's, and a team-high 10 stolen bases. Coldren, who hits in the clean-up spot, is hitting at a .367 clip with 10 home runs and 35 RBI's, both team highs. Raechel Zahrn (.296) and CarolAnn Sexauer (.287) are each near the .300 plateau, with Sexauer knocking out five home runs, and Zahrn 13 runs scored and 16 total bases.
Kara Dornbos and Chelsea Sundberg have been in the circle for the majority of the innings this season. Dornbos has a team-leading 2.72 ERA and a 9-13 overall record with 74 strikeouts in 126.0 innings, while Sundberg is 8-6 with a 3.32 ERA and 53 k's in 90.2 innings of work. Kristen Kuhlman and Morgan Yuncker have combined for a 4-3 overall record, 20 strikeouts and 26 walks in 61.1 combined innings of work.
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
The Mastodons come into the game with a school-record 35 wins under their belt, and have won 10 of their last 12 games.
Four regulars are batting over .300 for IPFW, led by shortstop Alex Bousquet, who is hitting .378, fourth best in the Summit League. Larissa Franklin (.364), Brittany Kachur (.360), and Ashleigh Bousquet (.315) are each over .300, with Mackenzie Ritsema (.295) not far from the pace. Alex Bousquet has scored a school-record 40 times this season, while Franklin has crossed the plate 33 times, while Alex Bousquet and Courtney Cronin each have a team-best seven home runs. Ashleigh Bousquet leads the conference with a school-record 48 RBI's, while sister Alex is close behind with, as Cronin has added 35. Franklin leads the team with a school-record 29 stolen bases.
In the circle, the Mastodons have two pitchers that have eclipsed the 10-win plateau, and a third that is one away. Courtney Cronin is 16-2 on the year with a 1.32 ERA, while Miranda Kramer is 10-3 with a 1.80 ERA. Megan Flenniken is one win away from making IPFW the only team in the country with three 10-game winners, as she is 9-6 with a 1.65 earned run average. Cronin has 102 strikeouts in 127.1 innings of work, while Flenniken has 91 in 97.1 innings, and Kramer 90 in 85.2.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Mastodons and Chippewas have never met on the softball diamond. Central Michigan has played a handful of current Summit League members among their history, including Oakland (13-3 all-time against them), Southern Utah (6-1), and Western Illinois (5-3).

This season the Mastodons are 9-1 against teams in the Mid-American Conference, sweeping Kent State, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, and Western Michigan, while splitting with Bowling Green. Bowling Green is currently 9-3 in the MAC this season, and leading the Eastern Division, while Kent State is a game behind with an 8-4 record, also in the East. The Mastodons' 9-1 record, and .900 winning percentage, would put the squad in first place in either division. Overall, IPFW's five opponents have a combined 32-26 record in the conference.
IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
IPFW sophomore Alex Bousquet is inside of the top-11 in the NCAA in two categories, times being hit by pitch, and on-base percentage. She has been hit 21 times this year, an average of 0.46 times per game, while reaching base at a .551 clip, which ranks 11th. Cronin ranks 19th in the country in ERA, as Ashleigh Bousquet is 27th in the country in RBI's per game (1.04), and 20th in total RBI's. As a team, the Mastodons rank 10th in the country in team ERA, and 17th in won-loss percentage. Central Michigan's Coldren is 65th in the country in slugging percentage (.700), and 83rd in home runs per game (0.23), while the squad also ranks 38th in double plays turned per game (0.37).
