
IPFW Drops Doubleheader vs. North Dakota State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- IPFW dropped to 12-31 overall after losing two games to the North Dakota State Bison on Saturday afternoon. NDSU won game one 11-4 and turned around to take game two 6-0. IPFW is now 4-11 in Summit League action.
Jason Kalber threw a complete game for IPFW in game one. The left-hander struck out four batters, but the Bison recorded 16 hits to generate 11 runs.
IPFW scored the first run of the game, but NDSU grabbed the momentum with a six-run top of the third inning. The Bison added two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth before finishing off IPFW with two additional runs in the ninth. IPFW posted three runs in the fifth inning, but were unable to comeback on the top team in the Summit League.
Carter DeBoe and Caleb Fenimore each recorded two hits for the 'Dons in game one. Daren Boss and Malcolm White each impacted the game in different ways. Boss ended the game with two RBI's while White led the team with two runs scored.
DeBoe's first inning double sparked the first run of the game. He came back with an RBI single back up the middle of play in the third to score Clay Hathaway. Boss also found room in the middle of the field to earn his second RBI of the game.
North Dakota State scored five runs through the first three innings of game two. They added on more run in the seventh inning to secure the 6-0 win.
Luke Anderson pitched well against the 'Dons in game two. The right-hander picked up his eighth win of the season by limiting IPFW to five hits. Hathaway had the most success against him with a 2-for-3 performance from the plate.
Kyle Sorensen and Drew Overman got time on the mound for the 'Dons in game two. Sorensen got the start and threw six of the seven innings for IPFW. He struck out five and walked six. Overman threw the seventh inning against North Dakota State. He came up with a key strikeout with the bases loaded to get IPFW out of trouble in the seventh.
These two teams will face off again tomorrow in game four of the series. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
