Box Score
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The IPFW baseball team scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie giving them their 13th win of the season over the North Dakota State Bison.
Daren Boss came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded. The defense was playing in and Boss hit a ground ball to the shortstop. Max Casper fielded the ball clean, but Clay Hathaway got a great jump and scored the game winning run pushing the 'Dons Summit League record to 5-11.
Travis Reboulet and Steve Danielak were great on the mound for the Mastodons. Reboulet made the start and threw the first 7.1 innings. He limited NDSU to seven hits while striking out four. Reboulet only allowed one earned run, and he kept the Bison off base by ending the game with one walk.
Danielak entered the game from the bullpen to pick up his fourth win of the season. He made three big strikeouts and blanked the Bison with no hits through his 1.2 innings of work.
Clay Hathaway once again paced the team offensively with a 2-for-4 performance. Hathaway led off the ninth inning with a single through the right side of the infield. He advanced to third during the next at-bat as John Skrbec made a throwing error which also allowed Malcolm White to move to second. The Bison decided to intentionally walk Carter DeBoe, and Boss made them pay as his fielder's choice hit to the left side allowed Hathaway to win the game.
North Dakota State scored the first run of the game on an IPFW error. The run was unearned, yet the Bison led 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning. Boss hit a one-out single to the left side of the field and went on to score after Shane Trevino's third triple of the season. Trevino hit the ball over the right fielder's head and would go on to score the second run of the inning off a Kristian Gayday single.
Each team posted one run to the scoreboard in the seventh and the Bison tied the game with one more in the top of the eighth. Lucas Salerno and Hathaway recorded back-to-back singles in the seventh. The Bison made a pitching change and four straight balls loaded the bases for DeBoe. DeBoe hit a hard fly ball to right field which enabled Salerno to tag up and score.
IPFW will look to build a winning-streak as they hit the road next weekend for a four-game series against Western Illinois. The Mastodons are currently one spot in front of Western Illinois is the Summit League standings. Game one of the series will be played on Friday, May 4 at 3:30 p.m.
