Box Score
MACOMB, Ill. -- Chuck Weaver threw a complete game and the Mastodons came up with 16 hits to record a 10-0 win over Western Illinois on Friday afternoon. The game was stopped after the eighth inning with IPFW holding the 10 run advantage.
Lucas Salerno had a big day going 4-for-4 with two RBI's. Caleb Fenimore and Kristian Gayday also recorded multiple RBI's against the Leathernecks as the 'Dons improve their overall record to 14-31.
IPFW used a balanced scoring attack to earn their sixth Summit League win of the year. They scored at least one run in every inning except for the fifth and seventh.
Carter DeBoe sparked the offense in the top of the first inning with a two-out double to right center field. He would score the first run of the game after a Daren Boss RBI single to right.
The Mastodons recorded four straight singles to start the second inning. They poured on two more runs off RBI singles from Fenimore and Salerno. The scoring run didn't end as IPFW rattled off three runs in the third and two more in the fourth.
Boss walked to lead off the third inning and quickly advanced to second base after a failed pickoff attempt from Western Illinois. He came all the way around to score after a Gayday double to left center field. Fenimore recorded another RBI in the inning with a single to left and the third run came in after a Clay Hathaway sacrifice fly.
Western Illinois made a pitching change in the fourth inning, yet IPFW still put two runs on the scoreboard. DeBoe led off with a single to left field. He moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Shane Trevino double.
IPFW was able to end the game one inning early than expected by scoring a single run in the sixth and eighth innings. Salerno singled back up the middle of the field in the sixth to send Boss to the plate, and Fenimore capped off his game-high three RBI night with a sacrifice fly to deep center field in the eighth which allowed Trevino to score the 10th run of the game.
Chuck Weaver now holds an overall record of 4-5 on the mound. Weaver was dialed in on Friday as he limited the Leathernecks to five hits while striking out seven. Weaver showed great control as he did not have a single wild pitch, nor did he walk any batters.
These two teams will face off again tomorrow at Boyer Stadium in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
