KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After a four-hour rain delay, the IPFW men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to the UMKC Kangaroos for the Mastodons' first conference loss of the season on Saturday at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo.

The Mastodons, who were riding a six-match win streak and had won seven of their last eight matches, fall to 11-9 overall and 3-1 in Summit League play, while the Kangaroos move to 4-14 (1-1).

With tight doubles matches setting the tone of the day, the Kangaroos earned two of the three matches for the doubles point.

At the No. 2 position, UMKC claimed an 8-4 win against the IPFW tandem of Daniel Kang and Joao Freitas.

Despite the 'Dons bouncing back with an 8-5 win at No. 1 by Roberto Cabrini and Connor Andrews, the 'Roos earned a 1-0 lead after defeating Andres Cobos and Junya Saruta, 8-6.

In singles play, the Mastodons got off to a rough start when they dropped Nos. 4 and 3, respectively, in straight sets. Martin Muadi then put IPFW on the board when he won 6-2, 7-6 (7) at the No. 6 slot to bring the 'Dons within two.

However, UMKC clinched its team win after claiming the No. 2 slot, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, followed by a come from behind win at the No. 1 position, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Joao Freitas picked up the Mastodons second match of the day when he won 6-7 (3), 7-5, 7-6 (5) at the No. 5 spot.

The Mastodon netters will return to action on Wednesday (April 11) against Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind., at 5 p.m.
