FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The 2012 IPFW baseball season is coming to an end as the Mastodons will travel for their final series of the year to face the Southern Illinois Salukis. This three-game series will begin on Thursday, May 17 at Abe Martin Field. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

SCOUTING THE SALUKIS
Southern Illinois holds an overall record of 25-27. They most recently faced Saint Louis (38-15) on Tuesday, taking an 8-5 loss. The loss happens to be their seventh straight as the Salukis have only managed to record one win in the month of May.
Chris Serritella leads SIU in multiple batting categories including average (.393), runs (47), hits (81), doubles (21), home runs (11), RBI's (51), total bases (137), slugging percentage (.665), and on-base percentage (.458). He has started in 51 of the team's 52 games primarily at first base.
The Salukis are batting .288 as a team during the 2012 season. Four players including Serritella are batting over .300 while two others are close behind at .291 and 290 respectively.
IPFW will face three of the top pitchers in the Southern Illinois rotation this weekend. Cody Forsythe will kick off the action on Thursday against the Mastodons. Forsythe holds the lowest ERA on the team at 2.98. He is 3-4 on the year with three complete games. The southpaw leads the team in innings pitched at 87.2. He has 62 strikeouts on the year compared to just 29 walks.
Nathan Dorris and Sam Coonrod are also projected to see the mound this weekend. Dorris is the team leader in strikeouts with 71. He holds an ERA of 4.50 and an overall record of 6-4. Coonrod is 2-5 on the year with an ERA of 5.43. Opponents are hitting .279 against him this season.
Other pitchers that may see action include Cameron Maldonado and Todd Eaton. Maldonado has the best record on the team at 6-1. He didn't throw against Saint Louis which means he could get some innings in against IPFW. Eaton serves as the team's closer. He has made 22 appearances and leads the club with seven saves. Eaton is 1-0 on the year with an ERA of 2.73.
