Men’s Tennis Wraps Up BSU Fall Invitational

2012 Ball State Invitational Results
MUNCIE, Ind. – The IPFW men's tennis team capped off the 2012 Ball State Fall Invitational on Sunday. There was no team scoring at the meet.
Gerard Guell reached the quarterfinal round of the Flight A singles consolation bracket for IPFW. He defeated Josh Malyon of Dayton in the first round and received a bye into the quarterfinals. He was knocked out of competition after losing 6-1, 6-0 to Luis Elizondo of Louisville.
Joao Freitas also reached the quarterfinals for IPFW in the same consolation bracket. He defeated Keelan Klarl to advance, but was ultimately defeated by Andrew Hanley of Dayton 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (6).
The showdown between teammates Andres Cobos and Alfonso Costas in the Flight B singles consolation bracket went to Cobos who defeated Costas 6-1, 6-2. The win sent him into the semifinal round against Michael Sellitto of Indiana State. Sellitto won the matchup 7-6 (5), 6-3.
After winning in the first round of 16, the team of Connor Andrews and Martin Muadi was defeated in the quarterfinals by Ali Shabib and Niklas Jonsson of Cleveland State 8-3.
IPFW ended the tournament by picking up a pair of wins in the doubles consolation brackets. Tim Saltys and Costas defeated Enzo Milano and Kyle MacDonald of Dayton 8-5 in Flight B, while the duo of Freitas and Daniel Kang recorded a victory in Flight A doubles (9-8) over Cam Tehrani and James Stark of Marquette.
The Mastodons will continue fall play at the ITA Regionals from Oct. 18-22. Michigan State will host the five-day event.
