Pair Advance to Round of 16 at Ball State

DAY ONE RESULTS
MUNCIE, Ind. - Three Mastodons, Daniel Kang, Martin Muadi, and Derek Romer, advanced to the round of 16 at the Ball State Invitational, before falling, as three singles players and three doubles teams are still active in the consolation bracket of their flight.
Kang picked up a first-round victory in Flight A with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Alex Woldmore of Butler, before falling to DePaul's David Vieyra 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (9-7).
Muadi, who came into the weekend with a team-best record of 7-1 in singles, topped Austin Rudell of Indianapolis in Flight B by a 6-2, 6-1 score, before falling to Andrew Stutz of Ball State by a 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7-4) score.
Also in Flight B, Romer topped Luke Hubert of Indianapolis by a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) score, before falling to Marquette's Nick Dykema by a 6-1, 6-4 score.
In Flight A, Jonathan Raa will face off against Woldmore in the consolation third round at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, after opening the tournament with a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (9-7) loss to Cam Tehrani of Marquette, and advancing after a pair of byes.
In Flight B, Karl Wangensten-Oye fell 7-5, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8) to Mario Noboa of Chicago State, before also advancing a pair of rounds via a bye in the consolation bracket, and will next face off against Paul John of DePaul tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM.
Connor Andrews, playing in Flight B, fell 6-3, 6-3 to Dylan Steffens of Illinois State, and after a pair of byes in the consolation bracket, will face off against Luke Hubert of Indianapolis at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.
Gerard Guell and Andres Cobos each dropped both of their matches on the first day of the tournament.Â
Raa and Wangensten-Oye picked up an 8-3 win over the doubles team from Chicago State in Flight B, before falling 8-6 to the tandem from Illinois State.
Three other pairs, Cobos and Kang, Guell and Muadi, and Andrews and Romer each fell in their tournament opener, but will compete tomorrow in the consolation brackets.
