Mastodons Record Two 7-0 Wins on Friday

Final Results vs. Chicago State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW women's tennis team defeated Robert Morris 7-0 and Chicago State 7-0 on Friday. The Mastodons faced the Colonials in the morning and finished the day with a late match against the Cougars. IPFW is now 5-3 overall.

IPFW dominated doubles play against Robert Morris as they won all three matches. Anita Henestrosa and Caterina Kiefer won in No. 1 Doubles 8-1 and the team of Marcy Huck and Kristine Lindal also recorded an 8-1 win in No. 3 Doubles. Miloslava Shustova and Theresa Neumeyr finished off the Colonials with an 8-2 win.

Lindal and Henestrosa were the first two Mastodons to wrap up their matches in singles competition. Lindal defeated Samantha Alves 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 Singles and Henestrosa won 6-0, 6-2 over Carolina Teixeira in No. 1 Singles.

The rest of the Mastodons finished in order as Kiefer won No. 3 Singles 6-2, 6-2 and Shustova was victorious in No. 4 Singles 6-1, 7-5. Marcy Huck and Sonya Sorokina rounded out the action on Friday morning as Huck went on to win 6-1, 6-1. Sorokina made her season debut in No. 6 Singles and played very well by defeating Kourtney Passero 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles action once again belonged to IPFW in the nightcap. The No. 1 Doubles team of Henestrosa and Kiefer won 8-2 as did Shustova and Neumeyr in No. 2 Doubles. Huck and Lindal was the first team to finish. They won 8-4.

No. 2 and No. 3 Singles were the best matches of the day as Lindal held on to win 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 in No. 2 Singles and Kiefer came back to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in No. 3. Henestrosa won 6-3, 6-1 in No. 1 Singles and Shustova won 6-1, 6-1 in No. 4 Singles.

Neumeyr and Huck represented IPFW in No. 5 and No. 6 Singles. Neumeyr won 6-2, 6-4 and Huck was victorious 6-0, 6-1.
