'Dons Edged Out in Pitchers Duel against Lobos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Behind the pitching of IPFW's Miranda Kramer and New Mexico's Lisa Rodrigues, the teams went through seven innings of scoreless softball, as the 'Dons fell 1-0 in eight innings in the Lobo Classic finale.

Ashleigh Bousquet and Kayti Hanson each went 2-for-4 on the day, while Larissa Franklin, Audrey Mintari, and Megan Flenniken each had a hit.

Franklin had three stolen bases, while Alex Bousquet added one steal. Hanson had a double and Flenniken a triple.

Kramer went 7.1 innings, scattering four hits while allowing an unearned run and striking out 10.

The Mastodons (5-4) threatened in the top of the first inning when Larissa Franklin opened with an infield single, before stealing second base a batter later. Alex Bousquet followed with a walk, before Bousquet and Franklin successfully converted a double-steal; however, a pop-up ended the threat for IPFW.

New Mexico ended with a threat in the bottom of the first, putting runners on second and third with one out; however, Kramer struck out the next two batters to keep the game scoreless.

The Mastodons put two runners on base again in the second, third, fourth, fifth, and seventh innings, each time coming up empty.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Lobos reached the scoreboard with a one-out single, and ended the scoreless game.

The Mastodons return to action on March 1 when the team travels to Nashville, Tenn., to compete in the Lipscomb Tournament where the team will face UTEP, two against Tennessee Tech, and Lipscomb.
