Four Matches on Deck for IPFW Women’s Tennis

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW women's tennis team will be active this weekend with four matches over a four day span. The Mastodons will face Cleveland State on Friday, March 1 and then play two contests on Sunday March 3. The final match will be at Niagara on Monday, March. 4
IPFW is 6-6 overall after dropping their last two matches of the season. Last weekend, the Mastodons lost 4-3 at No. 74 Bowling Green and 7-0 at No. 66 DePaul.
Miloslava Shustova has the best singles record on the team at 11-1. Caterina Kiefer and fellow senior Anita Henestrosa are also top players on the roster posting 8-3 and 7-5 records respectively. Kiefer and Henestrosa team up in doubles competition. They are 9-3 on the year playing the No. 1 position.
ABOUT CLEVELAND STATE
The match between IPFW and Cleveland State will take place at the Paramount Tennis Club in Westlake, Ohio. The Vikings are 7-8 all-time against IPFW under head coach Brian Etzkin. Cleveland State is 3-5 overall this season.
Ellen Folkers was recently named Horizon League Player of the Week after going 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles action last weekend. She now holds an overall record of 8-7 in singles play.
Picking up the doubles point has been a problem for the Vikings this season as they just picked up their first point of the season after earning three wins over Oakland.
ABOUT MANHATTAN
Manhattan is 3-4 overall early in the 2013 season. The Mastodons will face the Jaspers on a neutral court in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
The Jaspers jumped out to a 2-0 start to the year after defeating Rider 6-1, and Monmouth 5-2. They most recently snapped a four-match losing streak by recording a 5-2 win over Wagner.
ABOUT ST BONAVENTURE
The Bonnies have lost six-straight matches and are now 2-8 overall. St. Bonaventure defeated Robert Morris and Slippery Rock 4-3 to earn two wins on the year. The most recently lost 7-0 vs. Temple on Feb. 24.
Marissa Brossard has the best singles record on the team at 9-8. Fatya Amiri is another key player for the Bonnies as she holds a 7-9 record. The doubles team of Brossard and Amiri are 3-10 overall. The next best team is 2-8.
ABOUT NIAGARA
The Mastodons will stay on the east coast an extra day to play Niagara on Monday, March 4. The Purple Eagles are 3-3 overall with wins over Rider, Robert Morris and most recently vs. Bucknell.
Hilary Hansen is 5-4 overall in singles play and Iva Celan comes into the weekend with a 4-5 mark. The top doubles tandem is the team of Hansen and Maria Ortiz. They are 3-1 on the year.
