Women’s Tennis Prepares for Busy Weekend

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW women's tennis team will be in action this weekend when they host both Valparaiso and Ball State at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Center on Friday, Feb. 8. The Mastodons will end the weekend with a road trip at Wright State on Feb. 10.
The Mastodons are 1-2 overall early in the 2013 season. Miloslava Shustova and Caterina Kiefer are the top two singles players as Shustova posts a record of 3-0 and Kiefer is 2-1 in No. 2 Singles.
Shustova teams with Theresa Neumeyr in doubles competition. The duo holds an overall record of 2-1. The No. 1 Doubles team of Kiefer and Anita Henestrosa are also 2-1 on the year.
The Valparaiso Crusaders are off to a 1-3 start to the season after defeating Western Illinois 7-0, but taking 7-0 losses to Dayton, Western Michigan, and Northern Illinois. The Crusaders were scheduled to face Ohio Northern and Kalamazoo, but the team was unable to travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. due to the weather.
Ball State is 5-1 overall with their only setback of the year coming at Michigan State. The Cardinals recorded wins over IUPUI, Chicago State, and Milwaukee to start the year and they most recently defeated Wright State and Dayton. The Cardinals will host Butler on Thursday, Feb. 7 before they travel to the Pine Ridge Fitness Club on Friday.
Wright State is currently 2-2 overall with matches coming up against Chicago State and Akron before they host IPFW on Sunday at the South Regency Tennis Center. The Raiders defeated Robert Morris 7-0 in the season opener, but then dropped back-to-back decisions vs. Dayton and Ball State. They got back on the winning track against Northern Kentucky with a 7-0 win on Sunday, Feb. 3.
