Women’s Tennis Defeats Valpo, Falls to Ball State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW women's tennis team won their first match of the day 7-0 over Valparaiso, but the Ball State Cardinals came in and took the nightcap 5-2. The Mastodons are now 2-3 overall.
IPFW won all three matches in doubles competition against Valparaiso. The team of Marcy Huck and Kristine Lindal finished first Friday afternoon as they defeated Lauren Kammerer and Angelina Goheen 8-0 in No. 3 Doubles.
Anita Henestrosa and Caterina Kiefer won in No. 1 Doubles 8-1 over the team of Kristin Zakiewicz and Michele Fredlake and Miloslava Shustova and Theresa Neumeyr made it a clean sweep with an 8-3 win over Kaitlyn Hamel and Megan Barthels in No. 2 Doubles.
IPFW dominated singles competition with six victories over the Crusaders. Shustova and Henestrosa made quick work of their opponents winning 6-0, 6-0. Shustova finished first in No. 6 Singles and Henestrosa was next to wrap up in No. 1 Singles.
Huck and Kiefer defeated their opposition 6-1, 6-1. Huck was active in No. 5 Singles and Kiefer represented the 'Dons in No. 3 Singles.
Kristine Lindal moved up to No. 2 Singles on Friday afternoon and she walked away with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Hamel. Neumeyr participated in No. 4 singles against Barthels and came out victorious 6-2, 6-1.
Ball State defeated IPFW 8-4 in No. 1 and No. 2 Doubles. Henestrosa and Kiefer once again teamed up at No. 1 and Shustova and Neumeyr played at No. 2.
Huck and Lindal gave IPFW a little momentum heading into singles play as they defeated Ashlyn Rang and Ayaka Terashi 8-0 in No. 3 Doubles.
Two Mastodons recorded wins in singles competition as Caterina Kiefer dropped down to No. 3 Singles to beat Terashi 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (4-7), 10-8. Shustova had a close match with Rang in No. 6 Singles as she held on to win 6-4, 6-3.
Lindal stepped up to play No. 1 Singles against Ball State as she was defeated by Courtney Wild 1-6, 6-7 (2-7). Henestrosa was therefore placed at No. 2 Singles as she lost 1-6, 0-6.
IPFW will return to the courts on Sunday with a road match at Wright State.
