Mastodon Women's Tennis Improves to 4-0 in League Play

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The IPFW Mastodons closed out the Kansas City Summit League cluster with a perfect record after a 4-0 victory over the host Kansas City Kangaroos on Saturday afternoon.
The 'Dons have three more matches on their Summit League slate, when the team travels to Rochester, Mich. on March 28 and 29 in the team's final Summit League cluster, and will face IUPUI, Oakland, and South Dakota.
Against Kansas City, the Mastodons swept through the doubles competition, earning the team its point for the trio. The No. 2 doubles pair of Miloslava Shustova and Theresa Neumeyr was the first to finish, dominating with an 8-1 win, before the doubles point was clinched after the No. 1 doubles team of Caterina Kiefer and Anita Henestrosa picked up an 8-4 win. The No. 3 doubles match was played to completion, as Marcy Huck and Kristine Lindal picked up an 8-6 win.
In singles, the Mastodons got quick work from Henestrosa at No. 1 singles, as the senior swept through her opponent with 6-0, 6-0 scores. Lindal overcame a first-set loss in her match, rallying to win the second set 6-3, and the third 6-0 to give the Mastodons a 3-0 team advantage. The team victory was clinched after the No. 4 singles match featuring Shustova was decided in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
The remaining three matches were stopped mid-action after the match was decided.
The Mastodons return to action on March 28 and 29 as the team takes part in the aforementioned Summit League cluster hosted by Oakland University.
