
Women’s Tennis to Participate in Summit League Cluster

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW women's tennis team will return to the courts for a two-day event hosted by Oakland at the Bloomfield Tennis & Fitness Club. The Mastodons will face IUPUI and Oakland on Thursday, March 28 and end the week with a 2 p.m. Summit League match against South Dakota on Friday.
IPFW is on a nine-match winning streak and are off to a 4-0 start in Summit League play. The 'Dons defeated Western Illinois 7-0, South Dakota State 6-1, Omaha 5-2, and Kansas City 4-0 in the first cluster of the season, hosted by the Kangaroos.
This will be the first cluster of the season for IUPUI, Oakland and South Dakota. The Mastodons can take full control of the Summit League standings with a good showing on Thursday and Friday.
IUPUI is 4-2 overall after winning two of their last three matches. The Jaguars beat Wright State 4-3 on March 17 and then split competition on Friday with a 4-1 win over Marian followed by a 7-0 loss at Butler.
Bobbi Modesto posts the best individual record on the team at 10-6, but it is the combo of Shelby Hullett and Vanessa Whyte that play at the No. 1 Singles spot. Hullett is 5-9 at No. 1 compared to Whyte's 0-2 mark. Whyte has seen action at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4.
Hullett and Modesto are 5-9 overall as a team for IUPUI. They are 2-7 at the top spot and 3-1 at No. 2 Doubles. The next best team is the tandem of Whyte and Rachel Bridegroom who are 6-4 overall which includes a 5-2 record at No. 2 Doubles.
Oakland is 2-9 overall with wins over Wright State (5-2) and Webber International (6-1) and South Dakota poses as the biggest threat to IPFW at 12-7. The Coyotes are on a five-match winning streak and have the current Summit League Women's Tennis Player of the Week on the roster in Milica Pavlovic. Pavlovic plays No. 1 Singles and is one part of the No. 1 Doubles team for the Coyotes. She is now 10-16 overall in singles and 9-7 in doubles play with Maria Tortosa.
Yamini Reddy and Nina Barudzic are two tough players towards the bottom of the South Dakota lineup. Reddy is 19-7 primarily at the No. 6 spot and Barudzic is 15-12 at the 3-4 range. Veronika Makashov is another player capable of stealing a point at No. 5 Singles. She is 15-11 overall in singles play and is 8-3 alongside Barudzic in doubles competition.
