Mastodon Softball to do Battle in Lubbock Over Weekend

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons will put their 7-4 record to the test over the weekend, as the squad travels to Lubbock, Texas, to compete in the Jeannie McHaney Memorial Classic hosted by Texas Tech University.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
IPFW comes into the weekend having won its last two games, and five of their last six, including a weekend sweep in the only day of competiton of the Lipscomb Purple and Gold Challenge.
Leading the way offensively for the team this year is a group of six players hitting at or very near .300 for the season. Brittany Kachur, the defending Summit League Player of the Week, is batting .500 on the season with 13 hits in 26 at-bats, with a team-best 11 runs scored in her seven games on the season. Ashleigh Bousquet is batting .417 with one home run and 10 RBI's, as Megan Flenniken and Larissa Franklin are batting .323 and .308, respectively.
Franklin currently leads the team with eight stolen bases, as the Mastodons are 25-of-28 in their stolen base attempts on the season. Hillary Kartman is tied for the team lead with 10 RBI's, as six different players have one home run including Ashleigh Bousquet, Dani Pugh, Kartman, Alex Bousquet, Miranda Kramer, and Stephanie Beuther.
Leading the pitching staff this season has been defending Summit League Pitcher of the Week Miranda Kramer, who has a 2.21 ERA to go with a 5-3 record and 64 strikeouts in 44.1 innings of work. Opponents bat just .228 against Kramer, who has also walked just seven in her time in the circle. Megan Flenniken has pitched 21 innings and has an even 1-1 record with a 3.67 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 21 innings.
SCOUTING THE RED RAIDERS
Texas Tech comes into their own tournament with a 13-7 overall record, having won four of their last six games, including an 18-0 win over Jackson State.
Leading the way for the Red Raiders offensively has been a trio of players, including Adriana Perez, who is batting .359 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI's through the first 20 games of the season. Katelyn Williams is batting .415 with four home runs and 14 RBI's, and Mikey Kenney batting .414 with four home runs and 12 RBI's.
Two pitchers, Cara Custer and Brittany Talley have combined to pitch 101 of the team's 130 innings this season, Custer with a 6-2 record, a 2.30 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 61 innings, while Talley is 4-3 with a 3.15 ERA, and 38 strikeouts in 40 innings of work.
SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS
UT Arlington comes into the weekend with an 8-7 overall record after hosting the UT Arlington Classic last weekend featuring Tulsa, Creighton, and Lamar.
Offensively Meagan Michele has been the star for the Mavericks, as she leads the team with a .385 batting average, two home runs, seven runs scored, and six RBI's. Rachel Forshaw is second on the team in batting at .242, as the Mavericks bat .191 on the season through 15 games.
Despite the low batting average, UT Arlington has a winning record behind the pitching of Teri Lyes and Callie Collins. Lyles is 7-2 on the season with a 1.78 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 60.2 innings, while Collins is 1-5 with a 2.80 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 45 innings. Opponents hit just .227 against the Mavericks this season.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS
Troy comes into the weekend having won four of its last six games, with the only losses of those six coming by two to Middle Tennessee and to Florida State.
The Trojans have four players hitting .300 or above this season, led by Caitlin Ortiz who is batting .429 with six doubles, two home runs and 14 RBI's. Hannah Renn bats .323 on the year, and has scored a team-leading 16 times with five home runs and 18 RBI's.
Rachel Rigney has been in the pitching circle for a team-leading 62.2 innings this year, and has a 5-4 record and a 4.02 ERA with 32 strikeouts and 24 walks. Jaycee Affeldt is 4-1 with a 4.48 ERA, as Sarah Thomas is 0-3 with a 3.71 ERA on the season.
RECORDS WATCH
There are multiple IPFW players within the top-five in IPFW school history, including most notably Larissa Franklin who is tied for the top spot in career stolen bases with Sarah Swanson (2008-11) with 35.
Among the others within the top-five in school history batting include in runs scored (Alex Bousquet tied for third with 81, Ashleigh Bousquet fifth with 75), RBI's (Ashleigh Bousquet, third with 92), and walks (Alex Bousquet third with 61, Ashleigh Bousquet fourth with 53).
In the circle, Miranda Kramer ranks second in shutouts (5), fourth in strikeouts (212), and fifth in wins (21).
