Women’s Tennis to Host Marian before Regular Season Finale

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW women's tennis team will host the Marian Knights on Friday afternoon at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Club. The match will serve as senior day for Anita Henestrosa and Caterina Kiefer. Competition will begin at 12:30 p.m.
The Mastodons will take a 13-match winning streak into the weekend as they host Marian before traveling to Northern Kentucky for the regular season finale. The team will use this competition to prep for the 2013 Summit League Championships which will be held at IPFW April 26-27.
ABOUT IPFW (19-7)
The Mastodons have not lost since March 1 and are now 19-7 overall with a perfect 7-0 mark in the Summit League. IPFW defeated Western Illinois, South Dakota State, Omaha and Kansas City in the first cluster of the season and then swept IUPUI, Oakland, and South Dakota all by the final score of 4-0.
Miloslava Shustova is 22-3 overall and was recently named Summit League women's tennis player of the week after earning two wins against Dayton. Anita Henestrosa also has a player of the week award to her credit and fellow senior Caterina Kiefer is a two-time award recipient.
Henestrosa is 19-6 overall at No. 1 singles and Kiefer comes in at 17-4 at No. 2. The two student-athletes form the No. 1 Doubles team on the IPFW roster and post an overall record of 21-4. Theresa Neumeyr and Shustova pair up in No. 2 Doubles and are 19-6 overall and the final IPFW tandem to take the court is the combination of Marcy Huck and Kristine Lindal who are 20-4 overall.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS (15-8)
The Marian Knights are ranked 21st at the NAIA level with an overall record of 15-8. Hannah Knust and Brittney Horlacher are two of the top players on the team with nearly identical records at 13-8 and 13-9. Horlacher is 9-4 at No. 1 Singles and 4-5 at the No. 2 spot. She has been consistent all season long and is now ranked 36th in ITA Singles (NAIA). Knust has dominated at the No. 2 hole with a 10-2 mark, but struggled at No. 1 (3-6). The tandem of Knust and Horlacher are ranked 25th in the NAIA doubles rankings.
Lauren Paras has the best record on the team at 17-5 and Olivia Pursell will be pushing for a point at the bottom of the lineup with a singles record of 16-4.
SCOUTING NORTHERN KENTUCKY (0-14)
Northern Kentucky is having a tough year as the team is still searching for their first win of the season. The Norse will host Sunday's action at the Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex at noon on Sunday, April 14.
They have a four-match home stand on the schedule as they played Xavier on Wednesday and they host North Florida on Friday, April 12 before facing the Mastodons on Sunday. Tuesday's match vs. Walsh will end the regular season as the Norse will prepare for the National Invitation Tennis Tournament beginning on Saturday, April 20.
Northern Kentucky has been swept in every match this season aside from a 6-1 loss vs. Western Kentucky on Feb. 16. Marta Romeo picked up NKU's only point with a 10-6 tiebreaker win.
