
Women's Tennis Team Earns Top Seed at Tennis Championships

2013 Summit League Tennis Championships
ELMHURST, Ill. – The IPFW women's tennis team secured the top seed at the Summit League Women's Tennis Championship. The Mastodons will host the tournament at the Dr. Rudy & Rhonda Kachmann Tennis Center. Both the men's and women's championship matches are scheduled for Saturday.
IPFW collected its fourth regular season title in five seasons by posting a perfect 7-0 record in The Summit League. The team has won 14 consecutive matches for a 21-7 overall mark. Kansas City is the No. 2 seed, the highest in school history, after posting a 6-1 league record and a 10-13 overall mark. The Kangaroos will match up against No. 3 seed South Dakota State, which earned its first Summit League Tournament berth. The Jackrabbits went 5-2 in The Summit League, 15-9 overall, and are riding a seven-match win streak. The No. 4 seed is South Dakota, which also makes its first Summit League Tournament appearance after compiling a 4-3 league record and 14-10 overall mark.
Of the four tournament teams, only IPFW has won a Summit League Women's Tennis Tournament title. The Mastodons won consecutive crowns in 2010 and 2011.
Women's semifinal play begins Friday, April 26 at noon (ET) with IPFW vs. South Dakota. The Kansas City-South Dakota State match is schedule for 6 p.m. Friday's winners will meet in Saturday's 1 p.m. championship match for an automatic NCAA Tournament bid.
The men's tennis regular season schedule concludes on Sunday, April 21.
