Pair of Records fall in West Lafayette

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The IPFW women's track & field team broke two school records at the 2013 Dave Rankin Invitational hosted by Purdue University, as Kayla Zink set a new mark in the discus, and Rachel Dincoff in the shot put.
Zink's toss of 154-feet, 5-inches in the discus tops the previous school record of 150-11 set by Courtney Bowen in 2011. Dincoff placed third in the event with a toss of 148-1 (45.15 meters), the fifth-best throw in program history, while Lizzy Frazze placed 14th with a toss of 67-8 (20.63 meters).
Dincoff breaks her own record in the shot put with a toss of 48-4.0 (14.73 meters), breaking her own record of 47-5.25 set in the season outdoor opener. Zink took fifth with a toss of 41-7.25, the sevent-best toss in school history, with Emily Radke placing 11th with a toss of 39-8.5. Kaeleigh Porter set a new personal-best in the event with a toss of 38-11.5, while Alyssa Kopp (37-1.25) and Frazze (32-9) also competed for IPFW.
Senior Theresa McHugh picked up the team's only first-place finish on the day, winning the javelin with a toss of 141-8 (43.10 meters), the third-best throw in school history, with Kopp (8th / 92-0) and Frazze (14th / 67-8) were also Mastodons in the field.
Kaylin Taylor took second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.18, the fifth-fastest such time in program history, while also taking sixth in the 100-meter dash in 13.14.
Julie Jeszenszky placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeple chase in a time of 11:48.22, while Kayla Boyes took sixth in a time of 11:56.94. The pair paced a group in the 800-meter run, Boyes placing 12th in 2:31.09 and Jeszenszky 15th in 2:35.47, while Alexa Brown ran to a time of 2:36.63, Nicole Dailey to 2:47.13, and Alexis Minier, 2:52.64.
Katie Simmons led five Mastodons in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:25.77, as Andrea Bell and Rachel Zachar finished just behind with times of 18:31.10 and 18:31.66, respectively. Jordan Tomecek placed 16th in a time of 19:06.82, while Amaya Ayers took 17th in a time of 19:19.26.
The hammer throw saw Porter lead the group with a toss of 148-3 (45.19), while Emily Radke took 19th (108-0) and Laura Moynahan 22nd in 89-3.
The Mastodons return to action on April 26 when the squad competes in the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays.
