IPFW Women’s Tennis to Face 6th Ranked Michigan in NCAA Tournament

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW women's tennis team will travel to Ann Arbor to face Michigan in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship Tournament. The Mastodons were crowned regular season and tournament champions of the Summit League to earn an automatic berth into the field of 64.
This is IPFW's third appearance in the NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament. The program took a 4-0 loss to Northwestern in their most recent trip which came during the 2011 season. The 'Dons are 0-2 all-time as they also faced Notre Dame in the tournament during the 2010 season.
Michigan ranks sixth in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll. They earned the No. 10 seed in the tournament with an overall record 21-5.
The Wolverines were upset 4-1 by 15th ranked Northwestern in the finals of the Big Ten Tournament last weekend. Emina Bektas (No.25) is the top singles player on the roster as she posts an overall record of 24-8. Bektas plays alongside Brooke Bolender to form one of the best doubles teams in the nation (No. 7).
First and Second Round competition will be played from May 10-12. The Wolverines will host IPFW on Friday, May 10 at 1 p.m. and the winner of that match will continue on to face the winner of the match between No. 23 Notre Dame and No. 47 North Carolina State which starts at 10 a.m. on Friday. The NCAA Ann Arbor Regional will end with the championship match on Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m. The University of Illinois will host the championship match in Urbana, Illinois from May 17-27.
