
Mastodons Win Men’s Tennis Summit League Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW men's tennis team defeated Omaha on Friday afternoon 6-1. The Mastodons are now 6-11 overall and 1-0 in Summit League action.
Connor Andrews and Martin Muadi set the tone early by recording an 8-5 win in No. 2 Doubles to get the day started. The Mastodons earned the point soon after as Daniel Kang and Joao Freitas won 8-4 in No. 1 Doubles over Conner Tieszen and Carlos Ramos Salazar.
The final doubles match of the day featured Jonathan Raa playing alongside Andres Cobos. The team won 8-7 over Nathan Greteman and Matt Frost in the No. 3 spot.
The match was quickly decided in singles competition as Freitas and Cobos made quick work of their opponents. Freitas was the first to finish with a 6-0, 6-0 victory and Cobos was right behind him with a 6-0, 6-1 win. The deciding factor was a 6-0, 6-1 win from Gerard Guell in No. 6 Singles.
Two of the final three matches of the day were highly competitive as Kang faced Tieszen in No. 1 Singles and Andrews took on Ellis at No. 2. Kang shook off a first set loss and came back with a 6-7, 6-2, 10-7 win while Andrews came out on top with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 score.
IPFW will return to the courts tomorrow afternoon with a 3 p.m. match against Dayton on Saturday, April 6.
