Cardenas Wins, Falls, as IPFW Competes at ITA Regionals

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - IPFW newcomer Daniel Cardenas picked up a win in the opening round of the qualifier singles tournament; however, fell in the second round, as the Mastodons went 1-4 on the day.
Cardenas won 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 over Wisconsin's Jose Martin Carraza, before falling 6-1, 6-2 to Notre Dame's Billy Pecor in the second round.Â
Also competing for the Mastodons was Andres Cabos, who fell 6-4, 6-3 to Notre Dame's Wyatt McCoy, while Karl Wangensten-Oye dropped a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 match to DePaul's Alex Galousstian. Tom Sizeland, the final Mastodon in the field, fell 6-3, 6-1 to Northern Illinois' Kevin Daun.
The Mastodons return tomorrow for doubles action at the ITA Regionals, hosted by the University of Michigan.
