Men's Tennis Squad Closes Fall Season at ITA Regionals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW men's tennis team closes out its 2014 fall season at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals, hosted by the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

SINGLES QUALIFIER
IPFW has four players entered into the singles qualifier, as the top eight overall finishers of the 64 entered will earn a spot in the main draw, which starts on Friday, October 17. To advance to the top eight, the participants will need to win three straight matches. Below are the pairings for the first round of the qualifying draw.
Andres Cobos vs. Wyatt McCoy, Notre Dame
Daniel Cardenas vs. Jose Maria Martin De Oliva Carraza, Wisconsin
Karl Wangensten-Oye vs. Alex Galoustain, DePaul
Tom Sizeland vs. Kevin Daun, Northern Illinois
DOUBLES QUALIFIER
Two IPFW pairs teams have earned a spot in the doubles draw, the tandem of Cobos and Cardenas, and Gerard Guell and Wangensten-Oye.
Cobos / Cardenas vs. Wyatt McCoy / Kenneth Sabacinski, Notre Dame
Guell / Wangensten-Oye vs. Hunter Callahan / Chris Diaz, Ohio State
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
This season in singles, the Mastodons have a cumulative 47-42 (52.8%) record in singles, led by an 8-2 record from sophomore Wangensten-Oye. Two players - Martin Muadi and Sizeland - each have seven wins, while Cardenas and Cobos each have six victories during the fall season.
In doubles, the pair of Gerard Guell and Martin Muadi are 8-3 on the year, helping the Mastodons to an overall 18-15 record in doubles competitions. Connor Andrews and Derek Romer are 4-2, while Cardenas and Cobos have picked up three wins.
