Doubles Day Closes for Mastodons at ITA Regionals

URBANA, Ill. - In a day that had nothing but doubles action for the IPFW women's tennis team, the Mastodons went 1-2 in their three matches on the day, leaving only Mayu Sato to compete in the singles main draw of the regionals.

The doubles pair of Kristine Lindal and Carlota Trevino picked up an 8-3 win over Hanna Pangestu and Faith Huckabee of Chicago State, before dropping an 8-2 contest against tournament top seed Sarah Lee and RonitYurovsky of Michigan - a team that is ranked 14th in the country according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

The doubles pair of Sato and Marcy Huck, who earned the program's first-ever seed at the regionals and a bye into the second round, fell to the Wisconsin pair of Lauren Burich and Kelsey Grambeau - a team that was 11-2 heading into the tournament - by an 8-6 score. The squad battled back from deficits of 4-0 and 6-2 to climb to within one at 6-5, but could not get over the hump in the loss.

Sato begins play in the championship draw of the tournament, and will face Julie Vrabel of Notre Dame.
