FARGO, N.D. - IPFW sophomore Brittany Beard, last seasons' Summit League Newcomer of the Championship, placed fourth overall at this season's League Championships, as the Mastodons took sixth overall.
IPFW scored 159 points, just behind Omaha's total of 132. Oral Roberts (209) and Western Illinois (209) finished sixth and seventh, respectively. South Dakota won the title with 29 points, while North Dakota State took second with 60 points.
Beard's time of 22:01.6 is a new 6,000-meter career best for the sophomore, en route to her All-Summit League First Team honor, the first for a Mastodon since Crystina and Crystal Martinez both accomplished the honor during the 2008 Championships.
Rachel Kacer took 33rd overall in a time of 24:01.5, as Brittany Fensler placed 43rd in a time of 24:28.5. Kayla McGurk was the fourth Mastodon finisher in the race, taking 45th overall in a time of 24:37.7, with Taylor Busch (25:12.5) and Breanna Fensler (25:15.3) rounding out the varsity seven by placing 52nd and 53rd, respectively.
Andrea Bell (54th / 25:16.0) and Sydney Strang (58th / 26:23.2) rounded out the nine Mastodon competitors in the field.
IPFW returns to action on November 14 when the team competes at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, hosted in Madison, Wisconsin, by the University of Wisconsin.
