Mastodons Run Away Late Against Wolverines

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons used a pair of second half runs, one 10-0 and the second one 12-0, to pull away late from a feisty UM-Dearborn squad on Thursday evening by a 91-67 final score.
The Mastodons put a season-high five players in double-figure scoring, led by 15 points each from Joe Reed and Joe Edwards, while Steve Forbes recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, hitting all five of his shots from the floor and setting a new career-high with five assists. Isaiah McCray scored 13 points while adding a career-high five steals, with Jure Gunjina scoring a career-high 10 points off of the bench.,
The Mastodons hit 30-of-59 (50.8%) of their shots in the game, including 11-of-33 from long range, and 20-of-30 from the charity stripe. The squad committed a season-low eight turnovers while blocking a season-high seven shots, adding 18 assists - second most on the year.
The Mastodons and Wolverines battled back and forth for the first two-plus minutes of the game, where UM-Dearborn led 7-6. IPFW answered with an 11-2 run to push ahead by eight to 17-9, and the Mastodons never trailed again in the win.
The first half IPFW margin grew to as many as 14 with five minutes to play after a Forbes dunk, and the Mastodons took a 13-point, 48-35 lead into the locker room at halftime.
UM-Dearborn came out gunning to start the second half, scoring the first six points of the period, and the Wolverines trailed by seven at 50-43 with 16:42 to play in the game before the Mastodons ran off 10 consecutive points over a 3:46 span to push ahead by 17.,
A 12-0 run came three and a half minutes later, and IPFW closed the game on a 24-10 run to give the game its 91-67 final score.
Brandon Cole scored a game-high 18 points for the Wolverines, while Paul Standke pulled down 10 rebounds in the losing effort.
The Mastodons take nine days off for their final exams, before returning to the hardwood on December 20 in a 7 p.m. match-up with in-state foe Valparaiso at the Gates Sports Center.
