Mastodons Fall in Weekend Home Finale to Raiders

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons capped their home matches of the weekend with a 4-3 loss to the Raiders of Wright State University on Saturday afternoon.
The Mastodons quickly get a chance to erase the memory of the loss, as the team travels to Muncie, Ind., to face off against the Ball State Cardinals in a 3 p.m. start.
The Mastodons swept the doubles play on the day, closing first at No. 3 when Ella Norgren and Carlota Trevino won 8-2 over Linsey Verstrepen and Chelsea Girgash. The No. 1 doubles pair of Marcy Huck and Mayu Sato won 8-4, before Miloslava Shustova and Emily Richardson picked up an 8-7 win at No. 2.
Vanessa Madrigal won 6-0, 6-1 over Sofia Sorokina, knotting the team score at one apiece, until Shustova won at No. 4 singles by a 6-0, 6-2 score to put the Mastodons back ahead in the team score. Trevino's 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles put the Mastodons on the verge of the victory at 3-1 before the Raiders rallied with three straight wins to claim the win.
Aby Madrigal won 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 over Marcy Huck at No. 5 singles, before Mayu Sato picked up her first singles loss of the spring, falling 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 to Verstrepen. The match's final competition came at No. 2 singles, where Tori Turner topped Ella Norgren 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 to give the Raiders the victory.
