Men's Tennis Sweeps Matches on Friday

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The IPFW men's tennis team swept a pair of matches on Friday, beating Robert Morris 5-2 in Pittsburgh, Pa., before traveling to Youngstown for a 4-3 win over Youngstown State.
Against the Colonials, the Mastodons swept through the doubles portion of the match, with Daniel Kang and Andres Cobos winning 8-2 at No. 1, which was followed by Gerard Guell and Martin Muadi winning 8-2 at No. 2. With the doubles point already secured, play at No. 3 doubles was halted.
Guell opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, as a Kang 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win at No. 1 singles put IPFW ahead 3-0. After a Robert Morris win at No. 5 singles, Andres Cobos won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 singles claimed the win for the Mastodons. A loss at No. 4 singles was followed by a match-ending 6-2, 6-2 win by Connor Andrews at No. 6 singles, giving the match its 5-2 final score.
After the afternoon trip from Pittsburgh to Youngstown, the Mastodons fell in the first two doubles matches, 8-2 at No. 3 pairs, and then 8-2 at No. 1, giving the Penguins the point.
Down 1-0 after doubles, Kang evened the score with a win at No. 1 singles when his opponent retired in the first set. Karl Wangensten-Oye followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.Â
Muadi continued the Mastodon streak by winning the team's third consecutive singles match, winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. A win by the Penguins at No. 5 singles delayed the final result, which came with the next finished singles match. Guell topped Max Schmerin 7-5, 6-0 to give IPFW the victory in the match.Â
The Mastodons return to action on February 23 when the team takes on the Cleveland State Vikings starting at 11 a.m.
