Mastodons Fall to Cleveland State to Close Weekend

WESTLAKE, Ohio - The IPFW men's tennis team closed a productive road weekend on Sunday with a 6-1 loss to the Cleveland State Vikings after picking up wins over Robert Morris and Youngstown State two days earlier.
Against the Vikings, Cleveland State took the doubles point with an 8-1 win at No. 1 pairs, and an 8-6 win at No. 2. The No. 3 team of Connor Andrews and Karl Wangensten-Oye was tied 7-7 when the match was stopped for time.
The Mastodons quickly tied the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win by Wangensten-Oye at No. 6 singles; however, that would the the final win for the Mastodons in the match.
Despite falling in the last five singles matches, one required a tiebreaker in the second set, and another needed three sets. Daniel Kang fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, while Andres Cobos fell 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2.
Guell ran his match to three sets before falling 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 while Martin Muadi fell in his match at No. 4 singles 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). Andrews fell at No. 5 by scores of 6-4, 6-4.
After having 11 of the team's first 12 matches in the spring season on the road, the team returns home for a one-match weekend, hosting in-city foe Indiana Tech at 2 p.m. on March 1.
