BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The IPFW baseball team dropped a doubleheader to in-state rival Ball State, 15-2 and 9-2.
Shane Trevino, Brandon Soat, and Greg Kaiser all collected three hits on the day for IPFW.
In the opener, the Cardinals scored three runs in the first, one in the third, two in the fourth and seven in the fifth. BSU closed out its scoring with two more runs in the seventh.
For IPFW in the ninth, Jackson Boyce led off the inning with a single. One out later, Mitch Trzeciak singled to score Boyce. Steve Lowden followed with a double to left center, plating the 'Dons final run.
Dane Davis took the loss, dropping his record to 0-2 on the season after allowing 12 runs in four and a third innings.
Game two wasn't any kinder to the 'Dons as Ball State scored four runs in the first inning, including a three-run home run. The Cardinals added a run in the second and three more in the third.
IPFW got on the board in the fifth as leadoff batter Greg Kaiser knocked his third home run of the season.
In the seventh, Kaiser again led off the inning and belted his second home run of the game.
Ball State added a final run in the seventh with two outs.
Steve Danielak suffered his second loss of the season, surrendering eight runs, seven earned, in five innings of work.
IPFW returns to action on March 19 to take on Goshen with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
