CHARLESTON, Ill. - Despite overcoming a three run deficit, the IPFW baseball team dropped its series opener to Eastern Illinois 10-5.

Greg Kaiser led the Mastodons (4-14 overall) at the dish, going 3-4. Carter DeBoe went 2-5 on the day, while leading the Mastodons with a pair of RBI. Kristian Gayday hit his eighth home run of the season, and collected a pair of hits.

Eastern Illinois built a three-run lead, scoring two in the second and another in the third.

In the fourth inning, Gayday deposited the 0-1 pitch over the left field fence for his league leading eighth homer.

For the 'Dons in the fifth, DeBoe singled to left-center, scoring Evan VanSumeren and Caleb Fenimore.

IPFW added two more in the seventh, taking a 5-3 advantage. With two outs, DeBoe singled through the right side and scored on a double by Shane Trevino. After an intentional walk to Gayday, Kevin Wirth singled down the left field line to score Trevino.

The Panthers scored seven runs in the bottom half of the seventh, three of which came with two outs.

On the mound, starter Ryan Wells last six innings, allowing three runs, one earned, while striking out seven Panther batters. Kyle Sorensen took the loss in relief, surrendering seven runs in an inning of work.

The two teams will be back at it again tomorrow, March 22, with first pitch set for 2 p.m. (ET).
