Softball Takes Series from Bison with 3-1 Win

FARGO, N.D. - The IPFW softball team won the regular season series with the North Dakota State Bison by virtue of a 3-1 win on Sunday in the third game of the series.
Alex Bousquet's two-run home run in the third inning provided the game-winning runs, while Miranda Kramer improved to 16-8 on the season after giving up just one run in seven innings while striking out nine.
IPFW picked up three hits on the day, one each from Alex Bousquet, Hillary Kartman, and Kayti Hanson, while Bousquet, Larissa Franklin, and Hanson each scored once.
After a pair of scoreless inning, the Mastodons struck first when Kayti Hanson hit an infield single, followed by a two-run home run over the wall in center field, pushing IPFW to a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning the Bison cut the gap in half with a sacrifice fly, but would not cross the plate again in the game.
The Mastodons added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning when Franklin reached second on a throwing error by the Bison third baseman, before advancing to third on a wild pitch and scoring on a single by Kartman, giving the game its 3-1 final score.
Kramer struck out nine while scattering four hits over seven innings of work, walking one, and giving up the solitary earned run.
The Mastodons return to action with a three-game home series on Wednesday, April 23, when the team hosts the Bowling Green Falcons in a mid-week non-conference doubleheader.
