FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons will look to advance to the MIVA Tournament Championship match for the first time since 2007, as the team takes on top ranked Loyola (Ill.) in the MIVA Semifinals.

IPFW and Loyola have met 44 times prior to this, the third meeting of the season, with Loyola holding a 25-19 lead in the all-time series.
The Mastodons opened the series between the teams with nine wins in the first 11 matches, and led in the series until the 2010 season, as the Ramblers have won 14-of-17 against IPFW.
SCOUTING THE RAMBLERS
Loyola comes into the match ranked first in the country, with the team's last loss coming on January 4 against USC. Since then, the Ramblers have strung together 23 victories, including going 10-1 against ranked opponents.
Offensively the balanced Rambler attack has three players with over 200 kills, led by Joe Smalzer who has 269, while Thomas Jaeschke has 258. Smalzer, who leads the country in aces per set at 0.69, is also fourth on the team with 120 digs and third with 54 blocks. MIVA Player of the Year Jaeschke is hitting at a .397 percentage, and ranks 20th in the country with 3.69 kills per set.
Peter Hutz has a team-high 952 assists, as Peter Jasaitis has picked up 151 digs, while Jaeschke is second in digs with 149. Nicholas Olson has 101 blocks on the year - 1.12 per set - which leads the team, as he is also hitting .518 from his middle blocker position.
IPFW IN THE MIVA TOURNAMENT
IPFW is an even 25-25 all-time in MIVA Tournament matches after the teams' three-set victory over Ohio State in Fort Wayne. The win over the Buckeyes was the programs' last win in a MIVA Tournament since 2007, which was also the last time that IPFW had hosted a MIVA Tournament game. IPFW is now 8-4 in MIVA Tournament games played in Fort Wayne, and have won their last four such contests.
