OMAHA, Neb. - The record-setting season for the IPFW men's tennis team continued on Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 win over the Creighton Bluejays, capping a pair of wins on the weekend.
The win improves IPFW to 15-6 on the season, three more than the previous record of 12.
The Mastodons struck early by taking the first two completed doubles matches, as the pair of Gerard Guell and Martin Muadi won 8-3 at No. 2, setting the stage for Andres Cobos and Daniel Kang's 8-6 win at No. 1. With the doubles point in hand, the match's final doubles match was stopped for time constraints.
In singles, Guell was the first to finish with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, putting IPFW ahead 2-0 in the match. Creighton quickly fought back with wins at No. 4 and No. 1 singles to tie the match at two wins apiece; however, it was wins by Karl Wangensten-Oye at No. 6 (6-2, 6-2) and Muadi at No. 5 (6-2, 6-1) that secured the win. For extra measure, Cobos picked up a 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles to give the match its 5-2 final score.
The Mastodons return home for a trio of home matches, opening on April 9 with a home contest against the Butler Bulldogs, before hosting St. Bonaventure and Huntington on April 12.
