FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons scored the final three team points in the match; however, a 4-0 deficit was more than enough for the team point, as the Butler Bulldogs picked up a 4-3 non-conference win at the Dr. Rudy and Rhonda Kachmann Tennis Center.
The loss drops the team to 15-7 on the season, setting up the team's weekend matches against St. Bonaventure and Huntington on April 12.
Butler picked up a narrow team point in doubles; however, it was the IPFW pair of Daniel Kang and Andres Cobos who got the first point with an 8-5 win at No. 1 pairs. Karl Wangensten-Oye and Connor Andrews fell 8-6 at No. 3, as Martin Muadi and Gerard Guell fell by the same margin at No. 2 pairs, giving the Bulldogs the doubles point.
The visitors scored wins at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles, giving Butler the team point; however, the Mastodons would not back down, with a 6-3, 6-2 win by Kang at No. 1 singles, before Cobos won 6-3, 1-6, 10-3 at No. 2 singles. The final match also came down to a third set, with a hard-fought 1-6, 6-3, 10-8 win by Guell.
