SCOUTING THE MASTODONS (19-34/11-13)
The Mastodons head into the Summit League Championships after dropping a three-game series to Ohio Valley Conference Champion Southeast Missouri State. The 'Dons are making their first appearance in the Summit League Tournament in program history. Coming off its best Summit League finish in program history, the Mastodons 11-wins in league play are the most since winning 12 games in the 2011 season. The .458 winning percentage in Summit League play is also the second best in program history behind the 2010 season (.464).
In the regular season finale, shortstop Kristian Gayday became IPFW's career leader in games play (199) and games started (190). The senior also ranks third in program history with 12 home runs this season. In the nation, Gayday sits 11th in slugging percentage, 12th in total home runs, 21st in home runs per game, 58th in on base percentage and 85th in total bases. Mastodon game one starter Ryan Wells leads the Summit League in strikeouts per nine innings (8.61) which is 85th in the nation
(2) Western Illinois (19-30/11-13)
2014 Series Results: WIU won the series 6-2
The Mastodons went 2-4 against the Leathernecks in league play, but also dropped a pair of non-league games to WIU. Western started the season 5-16 overall in February and March, since then however, the Leathernecks are 14-14. The Leathernecks lost four straight to Summit League Champion Omaha to end the season, including a pair of 3-0 shutout losses. As a team, WIU ranks 16th in the nation in stolen bases per game and 25th in total number of stolen bases. Western also rank 42nd in team batting average at .290.
The Mastodons will face junior right hander Tyler Willman who has 3-3 mark in 2014 with a 3.25 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 80.1 innings of work. Willman has been recognized by Baseball America as an under the radar draft prospect, ranking in the 'Top 100' draft-eligible college players on baseballamerica.com

2014 Series Results: SDSU won the series 4-2
SDSU is coming off a four-game split with both NDSU and WIU. In its season finale, SDSU dropped a 4-3 game at NDSU, but picked up a doubleheader sweep on Saturday 5-1 and 6-1. The Jackrabbits sit at 27-27 overall on the season which included a 13-4 win over Big Ten opponent Minnesota and a pair of one-run losses to fellow Big Ten school Iowa.
The Jacks have the reigning Summit League Player of the Week in Sam Pack whom had a pair of hits in all three games he played at North Dakota State. In the first game of Friday's doubleheader, he had two hits, including a double, with two RBI and a run scored. For the week, Pack batted .500 with a .538 on-base percentage and .583 slugging percentage for the Jackrabbits. He had two RBI, two runs scored, a double and walk for the Jackrabbits.

2014 Series Results: IPFW won the series 4-2
The Bison are coming off a series split with SDSU, winning games one and four 4-2 and 4-3. NDSU was held to just one run in each game of its Saturday doubleheader by the Jacks. Earlier in the season, the Bison fell to Big Ten opponent Minnesota 5-3. NDSU also opened its season at Pac-12 powerhouse USC, and were swept in the three-game series, but not before taking the Trojans to extra innings in the series final, falling 5-3.
The Bison have the reigning Summit League Co-Pitcher of the Week in Reed Pfannenstein. Pfannenstein captures his first career Pitcher of the Week honor after recording a career-high six strikeouts in the series finale win against South Dakota State. The freshman right-hander went seven innings, surrendering five hits, no runs and just one walk to go along with his six punch outs. He lowered his season ERA to 3.53 in the outing.
