Women's Tennis Kicks Off 2014 in East Lansing

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's tennis team opens its 2014-15 season on Saturday and Sunday at the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University.

LAST SEASON
Last year at the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational, Sofia Sorokina went a perfect 3-0 in singles to lead the Mastodons, while two others - Mayu Sato and Carlota Trevino - each went 2-2. In doubles action, the pair of Sato and Miloslava Shustova went 2-1, while Marcy Huck and Kristine Lindal also went 2-1, as IPFW was 4-5 in doubles action.
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
A season earlier, Sato earned a pair of awards from the Summit League, as she was named the League's Player of the Year in addition to the Newcomer of the Year. Sato went 29-9 overall during the season, including a 23-3 record at No. 1 singles. Shustova went 21-17 on the season, including a 14-4 mark at No. 4 singles, while Huck was 14-7 at No. 5 singles, and Trevino 12-6 at No. 6.
In doubles play, Huck and Sato went 20-5 - all in the spring and at No. 1 - while Ella Norgren and Trevino were 18-13 overall, and 15-6 at No. 3 pairs.
