
Guell and Muadi Shine at IU Hoosier Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The IPFW doubles pair of Gerard Guell and Martin Muadi won their doubles flight at the IU Hoosier Fall Classic Invitational, and will face off tomorrow morning in a battle of the two flight champions.
The Mastodon pair picked up an 8-4 win over Youngstown State's Chancerel and Mistreanu, before taking the flight with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Bleach and Amare of the Citadel. The Sunday morning meeting will feature the two against Bednarczyk and Essick of Indiana.
Karl Wangensten-Oye went 2-0 in singles on the day with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Dayton's Simon Jayran, and later a 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 win over the Citadel's Peter Bleach, advancing to the back draw championship match. Tom Sizeland also advanced to the back draw championship match, winning by retirement while leading over Albert Masso of Youngstown State, and a 6-2, 6-3 win over Dayton's Graham Reinbold in the back draw semifinals.Â
Tom Sizeland and Karl Wangensten-Oye fell in their first match of the day against Bleach and Amare by an 8-5 score, and then prevailed 8-6 over Lugonjic and McCoy of Indiana in their final doubles contest of the tournament.
Andres Cobos, who opened the tournament 2-0, fell to Louisville's Jeff Brown in the quarterfinal round by a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) score. Jonathan Raa also dropped his only singles match of the day, falling 6-1, 6-2 to Youngstown State's Tolsani in the second round of the back draw.Â
Derek Romer and Connor Andrews, after falling on Friday in the opening round, topped the pair of Rigney and O'Conner from Ball State by an 8-4 score before falling in the consolation final by an 8-3 score to Carman and Stefani of Xavier. Guell, who fell in the second round of the championship draw, fell 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to Louisville's Santiago Salazar and later to Pat Downs of Ball State by a 6-2, 6-3 tally.
As a singles player, Muadi won 6-2, 6-1 over Oliver Dedding of the Citadel, before falling 7-6, 6-4 to Courtney Lock of Louisville. Daniel Cardenas, in the same flight as Muadi, fell 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-3 to Pally Ray of Louisville.Â
Raa and Carlos do Val fell in the first round of the backdraw to Berry and MacDonald of Dayton by an 8-2 score.
The doubles finals, as well as the two remaining back draw championships are slated for Sunday in Bloomington.
