Beard's Big Performance Paces Mastodons in New York

BRONX, N.Y. - A blistering time from sophomore Brittany Beard helped lead the IPFW Mastodons to a 14th place finish at the 20th Annual Brother John "Paddy" Doyle / Iona College Meet of Champions.

IPFW's 366 points put themselves ahead of St. John's, Iona, Hofstra, NYIT, and St. Francis (N.Y.). Brown won the event with 38 points, while Yale (86), Princeton (141), Edinboro (167), and Kent State (170) rounded out the top five teams in the field.

Beard placed 17th overall with a time of 22:57.84, which is the second-fastest time in the Summit League this season coming into the weekend. Rachel Kacer took 96th in a time of 25:23.23 for 6,000-meters. Brittany Fensler took 110th in a time of 25:53.96.

Andrea Bell finished three spots behind Fensler, crossing the finish line in a time of 26:01.10, with Taylor Busch placing 118th in 26:18.44. Breanna Fensler and Sydney Strang rounded out the Mastodon varsity seven by placing 130th and 140th in times of 26:56.87 and 27:31.57, respectively.

The Mastodons return to action on October 4, when the squad travels to Louisville, Kentucky, to compete in the Greater Louisville Classic.
