FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's tennis team kicked off its busy four-match weekend with a sweep of the Bowling Green Falcons on Friday night by a 7-0 score.
The win improves IPFW to 8-4 on the season, while Bowling Green falls to 0-8. The match was the first of four on the weekend for the Mastodons, as IPFW hosts Green Bay and Butler on Saturday, before hosting nationally ranked DePaul on Sunday.
In doubles, the Mastodons faced little resistance, as the squad got a jump start in pairs as Bowling Green brought just four players, and had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match to Emily Richardson and Ella Norgren. Alina Schibol and Sara Sherif picked up a quick 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, while the No. 1 doubles team of Marcy Huck and Mayu Sato were leading 5-1 when the doubles portion of the match was stopped.
The Falcons gave up default victories at No. 6 and No. 5 singles to Huck and Sherif, respectively, as the match was clinched when Richardson picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles.
Norgren's 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles was followed by a Sorokina 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 and a Sato 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1.
