Mastodons Fall in Battle with Broncos

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The IPFW men's tennis team battled with the Western Michigan Broncos, however, fell in a tight 4-3 battle at the West Hills Athletic Club.
The loss evens IPFW's record to 3-3 on the young spring season.
"It was disappointing to lose the doubles point, but I am happy with how the team came out strong to start singles," said assistant coach Jonathan Batuello "That response and play put us in position to win if we could have taken just another match."
Western Michigan took the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 3 pairs, and a 6-4 win at No. 1, while the No. 2 match went unfinished, with the Broncos leading 6-5.
The hosts pushed its lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles before the Mastodons answered back with an Andres Cobos 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles and a 6-2, 6-2 Martin Muadi win at No. 5.,
The Broncos took the next two singles matches, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 6 and 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3 to secure the win, before Carlos do Val out-lasted his opponent at No. 4 singles 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 to give the match its final 4-3 score.
The Mastodons stay in Kalamazoo for a 9 a.m. meeting with the Green Bay Phoenix on Saturday, before traveling to Dayton, Ohio, to take on the Wright State Raiders at 1 p.m.
