
Mastodons Close Out Wright State for Weekend Sweep

DAYTON, Ohio - The IPFW women's tennis team closed out the weekend undefeated following a hard-fought 4-3 battle with the Wright State Raiders on Sunday afternoon.
"This was an amazing match and both teams played at a really high level," said IPFW head coach Eric Burns. "We played excellent tennis and really played our best doubles in a while. Wright State is a good team, but we refused to lose this match. I'm proud of this victory today."
IPFW made quick work of the doubles portion of the match, taking wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to gain the team point in pairs. Marcy Huck and Mayu Sato teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, before Alina Schibol and Sara Sherif picked up a 6-4 win at No. 3 pairs. The No. 2 doubles team of Kristine Lindal and Carlota Trevino was trailing 6-5 in a tough battle, before it was stopped with the team point already secured.
In the first completed singles match, Wright State knotted the score at one with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, before Sato pushed IPFW back ahead by one with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles.,
The back-and-forth continued as the Raiders won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, followed by Sherif's 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5, pushing the Mastodons ahead once again, this time by a 3-2 score. Wright State's Tori Turner won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4, knotting the match score at three wins apiece.
With the final match of the afternoon in play at No. 6 singles, Huck won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, securing the win for IPFW, improving the squad to 6-2 on the season.
The Mastodons return to action on February 14, when the team hosts the Northern Kentucky Norse at 2 p.m., before traveling to East Lansing, Michigan, to face off against the Michigan State Spartans at 5 p.m. on February 15.
