
Women's Tennis Takes Summit Opener Over Golden Eagles

TULSA, Okla. - The IPFW women's tennis team won its third straight, and the first of the season in Summit League play with a 5-2 win over the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts on Tuesday afternoon at Bixby High School.
"This was a great win to start the conference season," said IPFW head coach Eric Burns. "I'm proud of this team, and their effort on the trip."
The win improves the Mastodons to 13-5 on the season, with the team's third straight 5-2 win - all on the recent four-day road swing against Bradley, Missouri State, and Oral Roberts.
IPFW swept through doubles, with Mayu Sato and Marcy Huck teaming for an 8-3 win at No. 1 pairs. Kristine Lindal and recently named Summit League Player of the Week Carlota Trevino swept their match at No. 2 doubles by an 8-0 score. At No. 3 pairs, Sara Sherif and Alina Schibol brought home an 8-3 win, as the Mastodons earned the all-important doubles point.
Defending Summit League Player of the Year took the first step in her attempt for a second straight top honor with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Sherif won her match at No. 4 singles by a 6-3, 6-3 score, as Sofia Sorokina won in the match's only tiebreaker, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). Marcy Huck had the team's fourth and final singles win by a 6-0, 6-2 score.
The Mastodons return to action on March 21 when the squad plays host to the Ball State Cardinals and Aquinas Saints in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader.
