
Women's Tennis Wins Fourth Straight Match

WARSAW, Ind. - The IPFW women's tennis team won its fourth straight match - all by 5-2 scores - this one over the Cleveland State Vikings on Friday afternoon at the Warsaw Racquet Club.
The Mastodons fell behind early after falling in two of three doubles matches, giving the Vikings the doubles point. The doubles tandem of Carlota Trevino and Kristine Lindal finished first for the Mastodons at No. 2 pairs in a 6-2 win; however, the No. 3 and No. 1 doubles teams each fell by scores of 6-1 and 6-2, respectively.
The Vikings seemed as though they would carry over the momentum from the doubles point with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles put the visitors ahead of the Mastodons by 2-0 count in the match standings.
From there, the Mastodons went on a roll, winning each of the next five matches, starting with a 6-2, 6-1 win from Mayu Sato at No. 1 singles. Sara Sherif won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4 singles to tie the score, before Trevino put the Mastodons ahead for the first time in the match with a 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 2 singles.
A win by Sofia Sorokina at No. 5 singles clinched the win for the Mastodons, as she took a 6-1, 6-3 win, before Marcy Huck closed the door with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 6 to give the match its 5-2 final score.
The Mastodons return to action for two matches on Saturday, starting with a 2 p.m. match against the Ball State Cardinals at the Kachmann Tennis Center, before returning for a 7 p.m. match against Aquinas at Empowered Sports Club.
