Pevely and Nelson Homer in Mastodon Losses

Nelson led the Mastodons on the day going 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI. Pevely went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Emily Olszewski and Prestlee Cooper each had a pair of hits on the afternoon. Caitlyn DeLong added the other IPFW RBI.
Ball State scored first in the opener with two runs in the bottom of the second on a single. IPFW answered with a run in the top of the third. Olszewski led off the inning with a single over the head of the BSU shortstop. After stealing second and moving to third on a groundout, Olszewski scored on a single to left off the bat of Pevely.
The Cardinals added to their lead in the bottom half of the third, scoring three runs, two of which came with two outs in the inning. They added another run in the fifth on a solo home run.
With one out in the top of the sixth, Nelson singled up the middle for IPFW. After a sacrifice bunt, pinch runner Hailey Gukeisen scored on a check swing single by Cooper and a Cardinal error. Ball State added two more runs in the bottom of the inning on a single and a solo home run.
Kaitlyn Biere took the loss for the 'Dons, throwing a complete game while striking out a season-high seven batters.
The Mastodons opened game two with a run in the top of the first. Jenna Balthazor led off the game with a single to left field. After a sacrifice bunt moved her to second, Balthazor scored on a single to center by DeLong. Ball State tied the game in the bottom of the first on a home run, before scoring two runs in the second and five in the third.
IPFW dug the long ball in the top of the fourth. With two outs in the inning, Pevely took the first pitch she saw over the left field wall for her first home run as a Mastodon. After Lindsay Burke reached on an error, Nelson deposited a 0-1 pitch to right-center for her second home run of the season.
The Cardinals broke the game open with 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth as the 'Dons were unable to score in the top of the fifth.
Sarah Lazarowich suffered the loss in the circle for the Mastodons.
IPFW kicks off its Summit League season on the road at Omaha for a three-game series beginning March 21 with the first game of a doubleheader set for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
