Softball Opens Summit League Play at Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - The IPFW softball squad opens its Summit League season at Omaha with a three-game series set to begin March 21 with a doubleheader followed by the series finale on March 22.

Scouting the Mastodons
The Mastodons are coming off a pair of losses at in-state rival Ball State on Wednesday. Avery Nelson led IPFW in the series going 3-for-4 at the dish, including her second home run of the season. Kelly Pevely also knocked her first career home run as the pair each drove in two runs. In game one, Kaitlyn Biere struck out a season-high seven batters in the circle.
Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavs enter the weekend series with a 12-13 overall record after defeating Northern Colorado twice on Tuesday, 4-2 and 8-0. Kat Barrow pitched eight innings to pick up the win by allowing two earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts in a game one win over Northern Colorado. Campbell Ditto hit a walk-off, two run home run to propel the Mavericks to the win. Game two saw Jaylee Hinrichs throw a one-hitter with five strikeouts in the victory.
